Academic years & terms

Set up the academic years and terms that organise your school calendar.

An academic year is the school year, for example 2027-2028. Terms (or semesters) split the year. Exactly one year is the current year, and it drives what the rest of the app shows by default. Classes are created for a year and term, so add these first.

What you see on this page

  • Summary cards: Current year, Terms and Years on record.
  • An Academic years table: Year (with a Current tag), Structure, Start, End and Status.
  • A Terms table: Term, Structure and Status.
  • A Term dates list under the Terms table, showing each term's start and end dates inside each year.
  • Edit and Delete buttons on every row, for school admins.

Add an academic year

  1. Press Add year.
  2. Type the Name, for example 2027-2028.
  3. Choose the Structure: Term or Semester.
  4. Enter the Start date and End date.
  5. Tick Set as current if this is the year the school is in now.
  6. Press Add year.

Add a term

  1. Press Add term.
  2. Type the Name, for example Term 1, and choose the Structure.
  3. Optionally pick a year under Assign to year, and enter the term's Start date and End date within that year.
  4. Press Add term.

Edit a year or term

  1. Press the edit button on the row.
  2. Change the details. On a term, use Set dates for a year to add or update its dates for a particular year.
  3. Save your changes.
