Messages
Send a private message to the school and keep track of the replies.
Open in InsplyMessages are private conversations. A parent, student or teacher starts a conversation with the school office, and the school replies. Each conversation is called a thread.
What you see depends on your role. Parents, students and teachers see only the conversations they started. School staff who manage communications see every conversation and can close and reopen them.
What you see on this page
- Status pills: All, Open, Closed, Escalated, each with a count.
- A New message button.
- A table with Subject (and a preview of the latest message), Category, Status, Messages (how many) and Updated. On a phone the category and time sit under the subject.
- A small N new tag next to a subject when there are replies you have not opened.
- Row icons: a speech bubble to open and reply, and, for school staff, a tick to Mark resolved or an arrow to Reopen.
Send a new message
- Click New message.
- Type a Subject.
- Choose a Category if the list is shown (optional, the default is General). Some categories have a reply target in days, which the school uses to track how quickly it answers.
- Write your Message (up to 5000 characters).
- Click Send.
Read and reply
- Click the speech bubble on the row. The conversation opens, oldest message first. Your messages are marked You. Messages from the other side are marked The school (or Them, for school staff).
- Opening the thread marks its new messages as read.
- Write in the Reply box and click Send reply.
Close or reopen a conversation (school staff)
- Click the tick icon on the row to Mark resolved. The status becomes Closed.
- To bring it back, click the arrow icon to Reopen. Any new reply on a closed thread also reopens it.
Statuses
- Open: the conversation is active.
- Closed: the school has resolved it.
- Escalated: flagged as needing urgent attention.
