About Communication
What the Communication module is for and the usual order of work.
Communication is where the school writes to parents, students and staff, and where they write back. School admins use it to publish and manage everything. Teachers, parents and students read most of the same content from their own menus.
The usual order of work
- Day to day, post short notices on the Noticeboard and stories on School news.
- Put dates on the calendar under Events.
- For something official that people must read, write a Circular. Tick Requires acknowledgement if you need to know who has read it.
- For a formal letter, such as a fee or conduct letter, use Letters.
- Once a term, set the meeting day under Parent meetings so parents can book slots with teachers.
- Answer parents and staff under Messages, and keep a record of important conversations in Meeting notes.
- Check Charts and Reports to see what has been sent and who has read it.
Pages in this module
- Noticeboard: short notices and posts, with an approval step.
- School news: news and announcements.
- Events: the school calendar.
- Messages: private conversations with families and staff.
- Circulars: official notices, with optional acknowledgement and a letterhead.
- Letters: formal letters and templates, with the same publishing steps.
- Parent meetings: the meeting day, and every slot parents have booked.
- Charts: how much has been posted and how people respond.
- Meeting notes: a log of meetings and follow-ups.
- Reports: downloadable notice reports.
Who can do what: anyone who can open Communication can read it and send a message. People with permission to post (teachers have it by default) can write notices, events, circulars and letters, but these wait for approval. Only people with permission to publish, normally school admins, can approve, publish, edit and delete. A school admin can change this for custom roles.
