Lend & return
Lend a book to a member and return, renew or write off the books that are out.
Open in InsplyThis is the desk page. It lists every book that is currently out. Each loan is for one copy of one title and one member. You need permission to manage the library to use it. Without it you see a message that you do not have permission.
What you see on this page
- A count in the heading of books on loan and how many are overdue. A red line above the table repeats the overdue count.
- Outstanding loans table: Book, Member, Due and Status.
- Member names link to the student or teacher.
- The Due date turns red when it has passed, with the days overdue in brackets, for example (3d).
- At the end of each row: a calendar icon to renew, a red icon to mark the book lost, and a return icon.
- A pager below the table when there are many loans.
Lend a book
- Press Lend book.
- In Book, start typing the title and pick it from the list. Only books with a free copy are offered.
- In Who is borrowing it?, type a student's or teacher's name and pick them. Only active members are offered.
- Set Keep for how many days? (1 to 90). The default is 14.
- Press Lend book. The due date is today plus that many days.
Return a book
- Find the loan in the table.
- Press the return icon on its row. The row shows Returned and the copy becomes free again.
Renew a loan
- Press the calendar icon on the loan's row.
- Type Extend by (days), from 1 to 30. The default is 14.
- Press Renew. The new due date runs from the later of the current due date and today, so renewing an overdue loan gives a full period and the status goes back to Issued.
Mark a book lost
- Press the red icon on the loan's row.
- Read the confirmation, then press Mark as lost.
Statuses
- Issued: out on loan and not yet due.
- Overdue: still out and the due date has passed. Insply sets this on its own.
- Returned and Lost: the loan is closed and leaves this table.
